Santa Claus, Indiana, is an adorable part of the Hoosier State known for its year-round festive atmosphere and holiday spirit. But, beyond its four-season Christmas-themed attractions and decorations, the city holds a significant historical connection to one of America's most iconic presidents, Abraham Lincoln. Here's a guide to exploring Lincoln's Indiana including addresses and hours.

Lincoln State Park

Lincoln State Park, Lincoln City

Lincoln State Park is a picturesque outdoor haven that offers a glimpse into the natural setting where Lincoln spent his early years, as well as the site where his sister, Sarah, is buried. One of the park’s top features is its ten miles of hiking trails that wind through forests, meadows, and along Pigeon Creek. If you love rustic lodging, pitch a tent or park your RV at one of the park’s campsites. If you like sleeping with four walls around you, there are cabins available for rent as well.

As for fishing, cast a line in Pigeon Creek or one of the park’s ponds. You’ll need a valid fishing license, so make sure you pick one up before you go. Once you’ve worked up an appetite, look for one of the picnic areas—don’t forget to bring your food and drinks with you!

Address: 15476 County Rd 300 E, Lincoln City, IN 47552

Hours: 7:00 AM - 11:00 PM daily but hours may change. Please check before you visit.

Lincoln Boyhood Memorial

Lincoln Boyhood

The Lincoln Boyhood Memorial is a historic site that commemorates Lincoln's childhood experiences. The beautiful memorial includes Lincoln’s boyhood home where you can step into a replica of the cabin where Lincoln lived from the age of seven to young adulthood.

If you’ve never visited before, my advice is to pop into the Visitor Center where you can learn about Lincoln's life and times through exhibits and interactive displays. On beautiful weather days, make sure you check out the gorgeous walking trails through the woods and fields.

While Lincoln’s boyhood cabin no longer exists, you can find a Cabin Site Memorial and Pioneer Cemetery, the resting place of his mother, Nancy Hanks Lincoln.

Address: 3027 E S St, Lincoln City, IN 47552

Hours: Visitors may walk the Park Grounds year-round, daylight to dusk. The Visitor Center is open 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM Wednesday - Sunday but hours may change. Please check before you visit.

Lincoln Pioneer Village & Museum

Lincoln Pioneer

Lastly, explore Lincoln Pioneer Village & Museum, a recreated 19th-century village featuring log cabins, a blacksmith shop, and a general store. It’s a good look into what life was like on a Southern Indiana farm in the early 19th century with its 13 impressive buildings.

On select days, it’s fun to visit when there are costumed interpreters around as they bring the village to life with knowledge and fun. Additionally, Spring & Fall Heritage Days, as well as the fun Treemendous Christmas in the Village, are a cool way to see the village during the holidays.

Before or after you visit the log structures, make a beeline to the museum to check out authentic Abraham Lincoln memorabilia including furniture and a 16th-century Bible.
