Indiana’s autumn nights are filled with excitement, laughter, and just the right amount of fright, thanks to the state’s popular haunted hayrides. Not only do they blend spooky fun with beautiful autumn views, making them perfect for families seeking a frightful fall adventure, but they also offer a chance to enhance the Halloween season!
This year, several haunted hayrides across Indiana stand out for their creepy atmosphere, scenic routes, and creative twists. Here’s a look at the best haunted hayrides in Indiana this year, with a focus on what makes each one special.

First, dress for the weather. Depending on which month you visit, it can feel like a summer day or early winter. Check the weather before you hop in the car.
Next, arrive early, as all of the hayrides are super popular (I speak from experience here), and hop in line before they officially begin for the night.

Hanna Haunted Acres, just outside of Indianapolis proper, is a staple of Indiana’s Halloween scene, offering its annual Haunted Hayride that balances chills with fun for all ages. However, I’d recommend it for older kiddos and up.
The hay wagon takes guests through an eerie woods over a mile long, where costumed actors and clever props provide plenty of surprises. There are multiple themed zones along the route, and the scare actors are top-notch.
You’re able to purchase a ride through Haunted Hayride on its own, or to get some more bang for your buck, buy a ticket for all six of Hanna Haunted Acres' haunts!

The Headless Horseman Festival is one of the state’s most iconic fall attractions, drawing families and thrill-seekers alike for an unforgettable adventure based on a classic Washington Irving horror tale. The hayride is renowned for its perfect blend of spooky excitement and family-friendly fun set against the backdrop of Conner Prairie’s historic grounds.
The highlight of the experience is the dramatic appearance of the Headless Horseman himself near the ride’s end, who gallops out of the darkness to the delight and surprise of guests. It’s designed to be thrilling without being too scary, making it suitable for children and adults alike. I loved the dramatic touches!
Piney Acres Scream Farm provides a storytelling hayride experience that combines scenic beauty with interactive fun. The ride travels through farmland overrun by a creepy zombie apocalypse! The ride can get pretty scary, so keep this in mind if you’re visiting with smaller children.
Fear Farm’s haunted hayride is known for its immersive sets and engaging storylines. The attraction features explosions, gory backdrops, and countless monsters trying to attack the cart. The ride even takes guests past the Headless Horseman, all set against an impressive backdrop. Listed as suitable for all ages, it still can get truly scary, and you know your kids best.
