Red Delicious, Golden Delicious, Jonathans, Fujis, Galas, Cortlands — the gang’s all here! Apples are in season right now in Indiana, making October the perfect time to visit a local orchard and stock up for all your fall recipes. This Central Indiana orchard has the autumn experience you're looking for!

Open seasonally from July through Thanksgiving, family-friendly Stuckey Farm Orchard and Cider Mill in Sheridan is currently hosting themed harvest festival weekends until Oct. 21. Admission includes access to a kids’ area that features a 60-foot tube slide, pedal cars, a train with barrel cars and several play structures to climb on.

A popular event, pig races take place several times during festival weekends, and wagon rides transport visitors deep into the 15-acre property where you’ll find a pumpkin patch, corn maze and noisy apple cannons that fire fruit far out into a target zone.

Apple cider slushies, hot dogs, apple cider donuts and other food items are available at the snack stand.

You don’t have to attend the festival to come out and pick your own apples. This working orchard tends 4,000 trees and 27 different kinds of apples, plenty for everyone! Visit the web site before driving out to see what varieties are now available for picking. Or, make things easy by shopping the on-site market for bags of fruit, all sorts of canned sauces and preserves, honey, candy, gifts and country-style home décor items. Don't forget to belly up to the cider tasting bar in the corner to sample the wares.
