Hendricks County, just west of Indianapolis via I-70 and US 40 are encouraging people to "Visit Hendricks County" (also the official name of their convention and visitors bureau) this fall as part of their fall promotional campaign.

They want people to visit popular Hendricks County attractions, especially on the weekends. They've got a number of fall festivals, like the Heartland Apple Festival, Indiana Short Film Festival, and Quaker Day Festival. There's the Prairie Maze at McCloud Nature Park, the 7-acre corn maze at Beasley Orchard, and the Avon Haunted Bridge, which actually/allegedly is haunted; it's not just a Halloween gimmick. It's also one of the 50 Things Every Hoosier Must Do.

Sarah Ferguson, Visit Hendricks County's director of marketing, said in a press release that fall is one of their more popular seasons, because there are plenty of things to do and see when the air turns crisp. They're especially interested in seeing overnight visitors at some of the local hotels and inns (just as long as they're not near the Avon Haunted Bridge).

If you visit their website at www.TourHendricksCounty.com/Fall, you can check out their schedule, find all the different attractions, and even check out their blog. They post a new weekly article called the Weekend Primer every Monday. Use the site to figure out which weekend works for your visit, and plan around the different festivals and events listed on the site.

Fall in Indiana is my favorite time and place to be. Hendricks County is one of Indiana's prime sites to visit as the leaves start changing color. So Friday night or Saturday morning, head west on I-70 or US 40 and see what you can find.
