In 1995, the United States Department of the Interior approved the State of Indiana’s request to convert 1700 of the 2500-acre Fort Benjamin Harrison Military Reservation into a state park and nature preserve. This decision led to the creation of The Fort Golf Course. The course was redesigned by renowned golf architect, Pete Dye, and Tim Liddy. In 1998, The Fort Golf Course was ranked third under “Best Affordable New Public Courses” in Golf Digest. Today, The Fort Golf Course is considered one of Indiana’s best public golf courses. Hole 11, The Fort Golf Course The par 5 11th at The Fort is strong and solid. This hole flows to the right and then back to the left as you approach the green. For the vast majority of golfers, it will take three shots to reach the putting surface. The tree-lined fairway is rather easy to find from the tee. The second shot is to a narrower landing area, which leaves a wedge to a big green that is 45 yards from front to back. In reality, two solid shots will reduce this hole to a short par 3 from the fairway. The Fort Golf Course is one of seven different courses on Indiana’s Pete Dye Golf Trail. Pete Dye is considered one of the greatest golf architects and he called Indiana home. Take the Pete Dye Golf Trail Challenge for a special golf experience.
