People have referred to the West Baden Springs Hotel as the eighth Wonder of the World. Ever since visiting French Lick Resort in 2015, I’ve understood why and wanted to return to see these majestic place again. The beauty of the West Baden Hotel and French Lick Hotel sitting side by side and comprising the French Lick Resort cannot be imagined!

A good time to return would be for the Easter Brunch at West Baden Hotel on Sunday, March 27 from 10am-3pm. Not only does the culinary staff serve a meal that is delicious, but the opportunity to dine in such a jaw-dropping place as the West Baden’s atrium would certainly make it memorable.

The brunch’s elegant menu reflects the grand surroundings in which it will be served. Breakfast includes house-made pastries, breakfast breads, omelet and waffle stations, eggs made to order, smoked salmon, smoked bacon and sausage, roasted breakfast potatoes, biscuits and country gravy, apricot stuffed brioche French toast.

Other items on the menu include shrimp cocktail, oysters on the half shell, prime rib, smoked ham, chicken picatta with angel hair pasta, crab cake, pot roast au jus, mashed potatoes, broccoli, glazed carrots, asparagus, salads, fruit with strawberry yogurt, cheeses.

I’m certain my sweet tooth would need topping off. Thankfully, desserts can be found at the Chocolate Fondue Fountain. There is also a children’s menu. Reservations for the brunch are required 812.936.5579. $58 Adults • $16 Children 5 – 12 • Free for ages 4-and-younger

Following such an excursion of participating in Easter Brunch at West Baden I’m certain my body would scream for exercise.

The sun is forecasted to make an appearance so I could plan to hike throughout the grounds of the French Lick Resort. Five miles of mostly easy trails wind throughout the property with possible sightings of birds, owls, and deer. This is the time of year for blossoms which makes being outside even better!

Maps and guided tours of the trails are available at the Valley Links and Golf Learning Center.

Bikes can be rented or our family could rent some lanes in the bowling alley located within the resort.

My favorite activity is riding horses from the resort’s horse stables. The crew of trained staff and friendly horses contribute to an exciting journey through the grounds. I especially like the nifty gift shop at the stables and purchased horsey frames there during our visit to hold the photos of us riding.

Maybe my favorite activity at the French Lick Resort is riding in a horse-drawn carriage. Listening to the gentle clip-clop of the big horses’ hooves against the brick drive is relaxing and hypnotic. Viewing the beautiful landscape around the grounds is a feast for the eyes. The rides last approximately 25 minutes with a choice of scenic routes.

Tickets for carriage rides can be purchased at West Baden Mercantile; French Lick Mercantile or carriage drivers.
