It is cold. There is no denying that, so the only thing you can do is embrace it and Richmond's Meltdown Winter Ice Festival does just that! For three days this coming weekend (January 28-30, 2016), visitors can walk the streets of Richmond's downtown and the Depot District taking in all the FREE events!
First and foremost is the ice sculpting ... those attending can watch internationally and nationally known, multi-award winning ice carvers: Buddy Rassmussen (the "Reverend Butter"), Dean DMarias, Danny Bloss, Aaric Kendall, Shannon White and Andrew Thistlewaite. These masters of the ice will create magnificent, awe inspiring works of art from plain blocks of ice using chainsaws, artistic skills, imagination and passion.
But the fun won't stop there ... during the Meltdown Winter Ice Festival visitors can also attend these various FREE events:
- Two high-energy, no holds barred ice fight carving competitions
- Interactive ice park featuring an ice pong table, slide and throne!
- Frozen Fairy Trail: not only can the little ones encounter the fairy trail, but
ten additional stops will offer free fairy craft workshops, games, special surprises and snacks.
- Family Games
- Paint and take souvenir
All of the activities and events are FREE ... I can't think of a better way to enjoy the cold - Meltdown Winter Ice Festival.
