For many families, writing a letter to Santa before Christmas remains a treasured holiday tradition. The Santa Claus, Ind. Post Office makes the practice even more special by offering a new picture postmark stamp for letters and holiday cards each year.

Since 1983, the post office has selected an artistic postmark from designs created by regional students. This year’s winner, Summer Weedman is a freshman currently pursuing a nursing degree at Vincennes University’s Jasper campus.

More than 400,000 pieces of mail come through the Santa Claus post office every December. Since 1983, the town has offered a postmark for letter-writers looking to add a little extra holiday spirit to their mail.

Senders can either drop off their stamped mail in person at the post office anytime between Dec. 1 and Dec. 24 to receive the postmark, or they can package their stamped letters and cards and send them with a request for the postmark to:

Postmaster Santa Claus Station Santa Claus, IN 47579-9998

The post office will take it from there. Keep in mind — if you want to have your holiday mail postmarked, there is a 50-piece limit per person per day.

An appealing family-friendly destination to visit any time of year, Santa Claus really comes to life during the holidays with events like the Reindeer Experience at Santa’s TOYS held over Thanksgiving weekend, the drive-through Land of Lights display at Lake Rudolph Campground and RV Resort, and (new in 2020) a Christmas-themed fireworks display on Dec. 12.

While you’re in town, make sure to stop in Santa’s Candy Castle for sweet treats and flavored hot chocolate. Guests can also sample roasted chestnuts on select Saturdays.
