Every town should have a bakery. And every town, no matter how small, should have one as good as Fingerhut Bakery. In the little town of North Judson, a community of about 1,800 in Starke County, you’ll find all the goodies your little sweet tooth could desire.
Family-owned since 1946, the bakery is currently run by brothers Doug and Greg Fingerhut. They carry a variety of donuts, cookies, muffins, bagels, coffee cakes, breads, bars, cakes, candy and more. If it has sugar in it, you’ll probably be able to get it here. They also carry specialty cakes and do custom orders. Baking has been in the family for generations, and the kids of the current owners are a big part of the business, so it is likely to continue for decades to come.
You can smell the oven-fresh treats before you even enter the door and memories likely come flooding back of childhood days of enjoying baked goods with loved ones.
It’s especially fun to make your way into the bakery when it’s getting close to a holiday. Whether it’s Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Fat Tuesday, Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day or Halloween, you’ll find an array of seasonally decorated sweet treats.
Also, keep an eye out for them at fairs and festivals where you can grab a goodie to go.
