"The passing of Pete Dye weighs heavy on my heart. I have been blessed to know Pete for over 25 years and worked very closely with him on the reconstruction of the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex, both Kampen and Ackerman-Allen. I cherish the priceless memories and everything I learned from him. Pete was not only a tremendous architect and visionary but he was a great mentor, and friend not only to me but also my family. His passion to involve and educated the students in all aspects of course construction was immeasurable. I am truly going to miss the phone calls and the continued upgrades he brought to the courses. But what I will miss the most is our walks around the course with him and his dog Sixty, all the stories he would tell, and the friendship we created. While I am the superintendent, I will always make it my mission to carry out Pete’s vision for the Kampen and Ackerman-Allen courses. My thoughts and prayers go out to family. Pete’s legacy will forever live on. You will be missed, my friend."
Jim Scott, Superintendent - Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex

"All of us at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex are saddened by the news of Pete Dye. Pete has left an indelible mark on all of Purdue with the renovations of the Ackerman-Allen and Kampen Courses. We are forever grateful to his time, effort, and contributions to Purdue. "My best memory of Pete Dye was the time I was able to walk hole #11 on Ackerman-Allen backwards as he determined if holes 11 and 10 were going to be routed as they are today, or if it would have been better to flip the tees and greens on those holes and play 11 as 10 and play it backwards from the way it is played today.  "I took two things from that day. First, Pete has an incredible imagination to create championship level courses, sometimes even redesigning existing holes. Second, I was always impressed that Pete liked to walk his courses during the design. At 90 years of age he was still walking the courses he was designing. He will be greatly missed by the golfing community as a whole, but especially by the people from the courses that he created." Dan Ross, Golf Professional - Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex

"It’s hard to put the life of Pete Dye into words. Pete was a master of golf course design, a true icon. What I will remember most about Pete is how he lived his life - unselfishly - giving freely of his time, his charitable giving and the way he helped worthy causes and needy individuals. And, above all his friendship. 'Driveable par-4s are not par 4s.' R.I.P. Pete!" Dave Harner, Director of Golf - French Lick Resort

"The Children's Museum is incredibly saddened to learn of the passing of golf legend Pete Dye. He was so generous with his time, creativity, and uplifting spirit as he designed his last course here at The Children's Museum alongside his late wife, Alice. Thank you so much, Pete, for leaving a bit of your legacy with us for children and families to enjoy. The Children's Museum of Indianapolis

“I think Pete Dye was the most creative, imaginative and unconventional golf course designer I have ever been around. Pete would try things that nobody else would ever think of doing or certainly try to do, and he was successful at it. If there was a problem to solve, you solved it Pete’s way. In the end, Pete’s way usually turned out to be the right way.” Jack Nicklaus (as told to the AP)

“You can’t mistake a Pete Dye. You knew it was his as soon as you played it. He had a different set of rules when he built golf courses and every single one he built was tough.” Vijay Singh, 2004 PGA Champion (as told to the AP)
