Zoom down the Midwest’s only refrigerated toboggan run. With the 30-foot tower and dips and valleys, the total vertical drop is 90 feet over the course of a quarter-mile. The top recorded speed is 42 mph. It’s a 20-30 second thrill ride!

There’s undoubtedly no better place in Indianapolis to sled than Fort Harrison State Park's sledding hill! Boasting one of the biggest sledding hills in the area – 300 feet, to be exact – you’ll have plenty of space to enjoy an endless loop of sledding fun. Fort Harrison also offers ice fishing and cross-country skiing. Around the hill are shelters with picnic tables, playgrounds for the kids, ice fishing on the pond, and trails to hike and ski. With something for everyone, Fort Harrison is a must-do this winter!

Indiana has more than 200 miles of snowmobile trails in the northern part of the state that are open to the public when conditions allow. These trails are provided through a partnership between local snowmobile clubs, the Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR), and the Indiana Snowmobilers Association. Additionally, snowmobiling is legal on private property with permission of the landowner and on country roads in certain counties. In all cases, snowmobiles must be registered and should follow all applicable state snowmobile regulations.

Here you can ski down family-friendly trails, snowboard on heart-pounding double black diamonds, or slide down a 750-foot tubing run. Whatever your course of adventure, you can count on one thing at Perfect North Slopes: plenty of snowy fun. With twenty picturesque trails and open slopes, skiers of all abilities will enjoy themselves. New skiers can get a head start at our ski school...families can hit a wide variety of trails...and the thrill seekers in the bunch can tackle our notoriously exciting black-diamond and double-diamond slopes. For those that love sled riding, go for a slide on our snow tubing hill. With multiple lanes to choose from and a surface lift to get you back to the top, this is the perfect family activity.

Join us for a breathtaking slide down Koteewi Run, central Indiana’s only groomed snow tubing hill. Slide 700 feet down groomed lanes in our custom snow tubes to a soft landing, and then ride our tow line back to the top for another run. No experience is necessary, just proper attire for the conditions and a thirst for outdoor fun and adventure. We also hope you’ll pause before the plunge to enjoy the view as you look out over the natural beauty of Strawtown Koteewi Park.

Big Clifty Falls | Madison – Clifty Falls State Park has plenty of trails and frozen waterfalls to explore this winter. Take the Clifty Falls Loop for a full winter hike around the entire park. This amazing recreational wonderland is full of the best winter hiking trails in Indiana.

McCormick’s Creek State Park | Spencer – This gorgeous park transforms into a winter wonderland in the colder months, and its stunning waterfalls look as though Elsa herself froze them.

Cataract Falls | Cataract – These stunning frozen falls can be found within the Lieber State Recreation Area and consist of an upper and lower waterfall. It's also Indiana's largest waterfall (by volume).

Acres Land Trust Waterfalls | Huntertown – The waterfalls found within this land trust might be more stunning in the winter than they are in the summer. Come view these frozen sheets and walls of ice up close.

Anderson Falls | Hartsville – Seeing falls as powerful as the Anderson Falls frozen so beautifully is quite amazing to behold.

Hominy Ridge | Lagro – These remarkable falls can be found deep within Salamonie State Forest and are well worth the trip!

Muscatuck Park Waterfalls | North Vernon – The lovely and enchanting waterfall found within this gorgeous park are simply breathtaking in the dead of winter.

Hathaway Nature Preserve | Wabash – This amazing nature preserve shows frozen, frosty, and icy falls from many different-sized drops.

When there are at least a few inches of snow covering the trails in Northwest Indiana, it's time to bundle up and experience the winter beauty of the Midwest with cross-country skiing! Keep active this season while trekking across the snow-covered landscapes throughout the South Shore. The 6.4-mile Glenwood Dunes Trail takes you through gently rolling wooded dunes.

Central Park Plaza Ice Rink | Valparaiso, Mid-November to the beginning of March – This year-round venue in the heart of downtown Valparaiso offers cold weather fun from mid-November to the beginning of March. The 12,000-square-foot open-air pavilion provides the perfect setting for a variety of uses. Booked with parties and markets in the warm weather months, it’s converted into a hub of winter enjoyment with its 80 by 120-foot outdoor ice rink that is nicely protected from the elements under its towering arched roof. A state-of-the-art sound system for music and colorfully changing lights set the stage for a memorable ice skating experience for all ages and abilities.

Riverside Skating Center | West Lafayette, late November through early March – Located outdoors at Tapawingo Park, this seasonal ice skating rink offers open skating from late November through early March.  The rink is a 120x70-foot oval and is lit at night for a memorable winter experience.

Lawrenceburg’s Winter Wonderland Ice Rink | Lawrenceburg – The City of Lawrenceburg kicks off the start of the holiday season in November with the opening of the Winter Wonderland Ice Rink, a covered outdoor ice skating rink that remains open through early January. The pavilion at Todd Creech Park provides a roof overhead and a fire pit to keep you nice and cozy!

Howard Park Ice Trail and Pond | South Bend – Howard Park’s 16,000-square-foot ice trail and pond is a premier winter destination for the South Bend region. The ice trail features rolling hills and soft curves that provide skaters with a diverse terrain when making their way around the loop. The ice pond is attached to the ice trail but provides a more traditional skating experience with an isolated skating area that can be used for learning to skate or skating activities like broomball.

NIBCO Water & Ice Park | Elkhart, 12/7-3/1 (weather permitting) – Lace up your skates (or rent a pair) and take a spin around an outdoor facility that features a path and rink with the beautiful landscape and Elkhart River serving as a backdrop.
