Halloween in Indiana is a spine-chilling experience, thanks to its rich history, eerie legends, and a host of haunted attractions that come alive every October. Whether you’re a thrill-seeker or just looking for a spooky night out, Indiana offers some of the scariest places to visit during the Halloween season. Here’s a look at the top haunted houses and creepy destinations you won’t want to miss.

First, Tips for Visiting Indiana’s Scariest Places

  • Check age restrictions before visiting—some haunted houses are not suitable for young children.

  • Purchase tickets in advance, as popular attractions often sell out.

  • Wear comfortable shoes and be prepared for outdoor elements at certain locations.

  • Respect the rules and staff at each attraction to ensure a safe and fun experience.

The Thirteenth Hour (Indianapolis)

One of Indiana’s most famous haunted attractions, the Thirteenth Hour promises a terrifying journey through themed rooms, dark corridors, and unexpected scares. With professional actors and Hollywood-style effects, this haunted house is not for the faint of heart. Bonus: the haunt has a story-driven theme and movie-quality sets, so keep your eyes peeled for the creepy beauty.

Hanna Haunted Acres (Indianapolis)

Hanna Haunted Acres

Hanna Haunted Acres is a Halloween staple, featuring multiple attractions in one location. Brave souls can wander through the Haunted Hayride and other haunts like Cannibal Chaos and Stalker Farms. Each attraction offers a unique blend of suspense, jump scares, and creepy characters lurking in the main area waiting to scare visitors.

As a gal who loves all things spooky, the Haunted Hayride is truly one of the best haunts I’ve ever attended. The immersion, combined with top-notch scare actors, makes this a must-do for every Halloween season.

The Story Inn (Nashville)

Story Inn

For those who prefer real-life hauntings, the Story Inn is a historic bed-and-breakfast with a reputation for ghostly encounters. Guests have reported seeing the “Blue Lady,” a spirit said to haunt the inn’s rooms and hallways—there's even a room named after her. Spend the night—if you dare—and see if you encounter any paranormal activity.

On a side note, the inn offers 15 guest rooms and cottages, each with its own theme and vibe. The cottages are ideal if you need more space for your luggage (and any spectral guests, of course).

The Willard Library (Evansville)

willard library

This beautiful Victorian Gothic library, incorporated in 1885, is rumored to be haunted by the “Grey Lady,” a ghostly figure seen by staff and visitors for almost a century. If you love book talks, the month of October offers several.

Fright Manor (Indianapolis)

Around since 1982, Fright Manor is a classic haunted house experience, featuring multiple themed attractions like Deadville and Theater of Pain. With intense scares and a reputation for creative horror, it’s a favorite among locals looking for a frightful night out.

While it’s not the biggest haunt in the state, what it lacks in size it makes up for in jump scares, decor, and all-around creepy vibes.

Culbertson Mansion State Historic Site (New Albany)

Culbertson Mansion State Historic Site in New Albany

The carriage house of the historic Culbertson Mansion is rumored to be haunted, as strange things have been seen and heard there. As if that weren't spooky enough, every October volunteers host the House of Anguish attraction right in the carriage house! You can go, just know that every scary thing you see may not be part of the show.
