Wilstem's Wild Ride: A Drive-Thru Safari Adventure!

Wilstem Wildlife Park's drive-thru safari showcases over 40 different animal species, providing a glimpse into the habitats of creatures from around the world. You can expect to see animals such as zebras, antelopes, and various other exotic species, many times up close and personal. 

The animals are used to cars and people, so don’t be surprised if you have a few heads coming through your open windows. Personally, I find it hilarious and giggle throughout the entire trip. I’ve taken my daughter several times through the years and it’s hard to keep her from laughing. 

Adding an exciting twist to the safari, Wilstem also features an animated dinosaur section. This prehistoric addition allows visitors to encounter life-sized dinosaur replicas, creating a thrilling experience for all ages. The addition has received a warm welcome and only adds to the safari fun.

Another fun tidbit: the drive-thru safari is a self-guided experience, allowing visitors to explore the park at their own pace. This provides ample opportunity to observe the animals, take photos, and create lasting memories. Keep in mind, once you’re done, you’re done—there’s no way to loop through the path again, so take your time. 

To participate in the drive-thru safari, your vehicle must have a top and solid doors. Open-air vehicles are not permitted for safety reasons.

You’ll have the option to purchase animal feed to offer to certain animals along the safari route. This interactive experience adds an extra layer of engagement to the adventure and is an affordable add-on. Be sure to follow the park's guidelines for safe feeding practices and never bring in your own food. 

For the safety of both visitors and animals, it is crucial to remain inside your vehicle at all times during the drive-thru safari. Dogs are not allowed on the safari.

The drive-thru safari operates year-round, but the dinosaur safari is from mid-March through the end of November, so it's essential to check Wilstem's website or contact the park for the most up-to-date information if you’re uncertain.

Admission to the drive-thru safari is per person, not per vehicle. It is advisable to check the park's website for current pricing and to purchase tickets in advance, especially during peak seasons.

For a more in depth experience, Wilstem also provides guided wagon tours. These tours are guided by knowledgeable staff, and provide a more up close and personal experience with the wildlife. It is important to know that the wagon tours do not go through the dinosaur section.

Included with the safari admission is access to the Roos & Crew Barn, where you can encounter even more animals, including kangaroos and reptiles. I love heading inside the barn to check out the animals and birds and outside to talk to the adorable goats.

Additionally, Wilstem Wildlife Park offers a variety of other animal encounters, including elephant, giraffe, otter, and sloth, providing opportunities for even closer interactions with wildlife.
