French Lick is well known for its beautiful landscape, fun activities, and varied dining options, but you may not know about its unique lodging. While traditional hotels and resorts are always a good choice, unique places to stay are fun and memorable as well. Here are the top ones in the French Lick area to help you plan your next visit.
Patoka Lake Floating Cabins
Floating in a boat on a lake is very common in the Hoosier State - Indiana has 86 to choose from. But Patoka Lake in the French Lick region has a fun overnight option: floating cabins. Indiana’s first official floating cabin area, you’ll have your choice of a two-bedroom or three-bedroom floor plan, each with a queen bed for comfort. Available to rent from April through October, you’ll have the best of the warmer months to choose from.
Complete with a 12’ by 10’ lower-level deck area, it’s complete with a gas grill and even your own boat slip spot or convenience. As for the interior, think of the floating cabins as one you’d find at a campground. You’ll find a full-sized kitchen complete with an oven and stove, full refrigerator, common appliances, and all of the utensils you’ll need. Additionally, you won’t be roughing it: each is complete with both heating and air conditioning. Unlike many campground cabins, you won’t need to bring your own towels or linens; they’re provided as well.
Wilstem Wildlife Safari Cabins
When asked what my favorite activity to do around French Lake is, my mind immediately goes to Wilstem Wildlife Safari. With both a drive-thru safari and adorable animal encounters, if you love to be immersed in nature, the property offers rental cabins. With several styles to choose from, including an adorable Stemle Carriage House that sleeps two people comfortably to the Ballard Lodge that can house up to 30 people at a time, there are plenty of options depending on your travel party and budget.
You won’t be responsible for bringing your own linens for any of the lodging options unless you can’t sleep without your own pillow or a similar situation - I know I can’t travel without mine! Additionally, if you’re looking for a rustic yet still luxurious place to have a party or wedding, the Barn Loft can hold up to 250 people.
Patoka Lake Winery Silo Suites
Patoka Lake Winery is a haven for folks who love both dry and sweet wines. Having written that, if you want a truly unique lodging experience, its on-property Silo Suites are the way to go. Each is two stories tall and offers one bedroom with a king bed. As for additionals, there are plenty: 1 ½ baths (the full bath has a jacuzzi tub), an open–concept living area, a kitchenette with all of the necessary amenities, and even free wifi. As for who may stay, you’ll have to leave the kiddos and furry babies at home, as the property is for folks over 21 years of age, so feel free to make your stay as romantic as you’d like.
